High School Volunteers
The CAPINCS volunteers are high school students of all grade levels from Nevada Union and area homeschool programs. Volunteers participate in a program training course that covers program goals, working with children, abuse information, and a lot of practice with our puppets and scripts. While the program does not involve a large time commitment (most volunteers perform three to five times per year), it gives students the opportunity to contribute to our community and provide a positive role model for young ones. Interested students should contact Inger Avery at (530) 265-9550. We accept volunteers throughout the school year.
Some student responses to the CAPINCS program:
"For my Senior Project I decided to do a …(puppet show) script for Spanish
speaking students. Every child, no matter what language, needs to know
that they can say 'no.'" (Griffin)
"I never understood, until my experience in CAPINCS, that in a community where everything appears safe and perfect, the hidden horrors of abuse are actually painfully present." (Brie)
"The satisfaction of knowing that this program does in fact help kids is the main motivation to keep me going. Joining CAPINCS has been one of the most emotionally rewarding activities I have ever done." (Karina)
"When I go to CAPINCS, preparing to disappear behind a flimsy curtain and an alliterative animal character, I know that I genuinely am … 'making a difference'." (Aubyn)
"I am proud of the CAPINCS program, proud of the very important difference that it has from other programs, and proud to be a part of the force out to make a difference. To me, CAPINCS has been one of my small ways to hopefully make a big difference." (Nicole)
"(The CAPINCS program) has been a great experience for me and I think that the kids reached by the program benefit greatly from it as well. They learn some very important things in a fun way and they actually remember it. After a show I saw that the message of personal safety was a concept that now made more sense to them." (Robert)
